Multiplication
Multiplication is the addition of the same number a repeated number of times...
When you open a carton of eggs you see that we get 12:
- when 6 occurs 2 times
- when 2 occurs 6 times
For the grid in the picture, we see 5 occurring 4 times. We could rotate this picture by 90 degrees and then we would see 4 occurring 5 times.
Or we could leave the picture as it is, and you could rotate your mind by 90 degrees and see 4 occurring 5 times.
In Tensorland, we are allowed to multiply a difference by a scalar. Maybe a trip you take daily changes the odometer by 10 miles and after five days that trip has put 50 miles on the odometer 5(change of 10) = change of 50.
